Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Technician to join our team at a state-of-the-art steel mill. This role is critical to maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing high-voltage electrical systems, PLCs, motor controls, and other complex industrial equipment in a fast-paced production environment. Strong preference will be given to candidates with Navy Nuclear Submarine Electrical Service training and experience due to their expertise in electrical systems, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance in high-pressure environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, power distribution, motors, and automation controls.
  • Troubleshoot and repair high-voltage (up to 24kV) electrical systems, switchgear, and transformers.
  • Maintain, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and motor control centers (MCCs) to ensure efficient operation of steel mill processes.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, thermal imaging, and vibration analysis to detect and resolve electrical issues.
  • Work with AC/DC drives, VFDs, and servo systems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and operations teams to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure compliance with all OSHA, NFPA 70E, and NEC safety standards.
  • Assist in the installation, commissioning, and calibration of new electrical equipment and automation systems.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and system modifications in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians and operators on electrical safety and troubleshooting techniques.

Preferred Background & Experience:

  • U.S. Navy Nuclear Electrician (Submarine or Surface Fleet) strongly preferred due to experience with high-reliability electrical systems and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, or related field (or equivalent military training).
  • 3+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in a heavy manufacturing or steel mill environment preferred. OR
  • "A" School, "Power" School AND Prototype Experience
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or GE PLCs, motor control circuits, and SCADA systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, generators, transformers, and power factor correction.
  • Familiarity with arc flash safety procedures, NEC regulations, and NFPA 70E compliance.
  • Experience working with predictive maintenance technologies (infrared thermography, ultrasound, vibration analysis).
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed in a steel mill environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
