               I.      SUMMARY STATEMENT

 

Responsible for presenting Firefighting/Damage Control Training for Maritime and Navy Programs.  Provides classroom instruction to students and live fire and damage control training in line with Navy curriculum or USCG approved curriculum. Ensures course content is current, consistent with latest directives from regulatory authorities and practices according to the program. Coordinates curriculum content with the Instructional Design Coordinator and works with firefighting instructors at both campuses.

Reports to the Program Manager or Designate

 

 

           III.      MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Responsible for all areas of classroom and practical training throughout the day and will delegate responsibilities to instructors to meet these objectives

 

  1. Successfully provide objective based instructor lesson plans, practical training evolutions, and adult learning theory

 

  1. Serve as Structure Chief during practical training exercises for Navy Fire training.

 

  1. Act as a Course Content Expert for USCG coursesin collaboration with the Instructional Design Coordinator and Program Manager
  2. A Lead Instructor will collaborate with colleagues to ensure courses meet the needs of students and standards set by the USCG, IMO, and or other regulatory authorities.
  3. Other duties as assigned

 

 

          IV.      DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Qualified under Core Unique Training Requirements as “podium” instructors for all US Navy training courses taught. 
  • Four or more years of service in U.S. Military or a major fire department
  • Qualified instructor of Navy Firefighting and Damage Control Courses
  • Capable of passing US Navy Physical and Psychological testing requirements
  • USCG Officer level license or equivalent with experience sailing under that license a plus
  • Leadership experience in U.S. Navy or Coast Guard or major Fire Department

 

Instructor qualification from military, fire service or other accredited organization

  •  
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Capable of passing US Navy Physical and Psychological testing requirements
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making skills; ability to perform tasks and projects with no guidance.  Capable of developing sound, detailed analyses to support actions and/or recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills required.  Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.

 

 

 

 

 

            V.      Physical Demands

  • The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. 
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The position requires working outside most of the day. Duties may require occasional travel to off site locations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the fire trainer is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles.
