Enterprise Finance drives financial management for the company and maintains and enhances risk and financial controls. Key functions within Enterprise Finance include finance and accounting; Treasury; corporate development, mergers, and acquisitions; Data Management and Insights, the Customer Remediation Center of Excellence, Enterprise Shared Services, Business Process Management, and Corporate Strategy. Enterprise Finance informs shareholders, regulators, taxing authorities, team members, and leaders of the company’s financial performance through earnings releases, investor meetings and conferences, and meetings with regulators and credit rating agencies, following appropriate reporting guidelines. They also maintain and enhance risk and financial controls and lead many of the company’s shared services functions including corporate properties, security, and global services.

Data Management and Insights (DMI) is transforming the way that Wells Fargo uses and manages data. Our work enables Wells Fargo to empower and inform our team members, deliver exceptional experiences for our customers, and meet the elevated expectations of our regulators. The team is responsible for designing the future data environment, defining data governance and oversight, and partnering with technology to operate the data infrastructure for the company. This team also provides next generation analytic insights to drive business strategies and help meet our commitment to satisfy our customers’ financial needs.

This newly created business position within DMI reports to the Corporate Functions Business Data Leader (BDL) and serves as the Data Assets Leader for all Corporate Functions data asset applications owned by DMI.  As such, this role manages a team that is responsible for Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) and Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) compliance requirements, as well as system access approvals for all impacted applications.  The role also provides analytic and reporting support to line of business partners and is responsible for the asset rationalization roadmap, driving retirement activities for current state data assets owned by the Corporate Functions BDL.

  • Serving as the Data Asset Owner for all Corporate Functions BDL owned data assets within DMI, complying with all policy requirements and expectations
  • Leading and mentoring a senior team focused on ABO responsibilities for owned assets, which include:

Ensure compliance with EDG Policy by providing business metadata, establish data quality controls, and remediate data defects and issues. Align application to business strategy, define business requirements, advocate for financial investment in the application, and act as stakeholder for data related projects.

  • Comply with all EDG policies and standards for business metadata and data risk, quality, privacy controls
  • Participate in relevant data governance activities with other internal stakeholders
  • Provide input or approval (as applicable) to data management-related procedures, strategies or reporting
  • Log and/or resolve material data issues as defined by the EDG policy and lead resolution of data issues, as needed
  • Participate in data management/control environment assessments and fit for purpose reviews
  • Act as the primary engagement point for 1st and 2nd line reviews, audits, and/or testing
  • Ensure identification and approval, as needed, of material changes to the data, controls, or data environment
  • Act as the data owner as required by the Governance & Oversight Framework
  • Advocate for financial investment in the application in alignment with business needs
  • Ensure established Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) policies and requirements are followed, including user acceptance and regression testing, to support successful production installations
  • Independently or with support from the business, provide business or regulatory compliance requirements for the application
  • Partner with EIT to support project prioritization, incident and change management, including communicating business impacts and coordinating with end users
  • Ensure Business Continuity Plans are in place where needed to support critical business needs
  • Align application features  and functions to business needs and overall application to business strategy
  • Partner with Relationship Managers across the Corporate Functions BDL team to meet strategic business priorities, as applicable, utilizing Corporate Functions owned assets
  • Manage security access to owned assets
  • Support lines of business analytic and reporting needs utilizing Wells Fargo approved standard business intelligence tools
  • Lead and influence matrixed teams across multiple functional areas.
  • Partner with senior DMI leaders on alignment to data management strategy content (i.e. data governance, data issue remediation, data lake sourcing and consumption, regulator commitments), to ensure visibility and to support the transformation to the target state at Wells Fargo

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: data management, data governance, data quality or data analysis
  • 4+ years of management experience
  • 3 + years of experience supporting or designing high priority enterprise technology solutions
  • 3+ years of strategy consulting experience
  • 5+ years of data management experience
  • 4+ years of experience working in a large enterprise network organization
  • 3+ years of experience with change control processes and governance

Desired Qualifications

  • A BS/BA degree or higher
  • Financial industry experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of data governance challenges and approaches: metadata, data quality, and data stewardship
  • Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective business partnerships with all levels of team members
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to navigate complex business relationships
  • Exposure to Wells Fargo data warehouses such as: EIW, BMG, MDSS, Hemisphere, IMS, SMS, or CMODS
  • Knowledge and understanding of Big Data

  • Experience with all aspects of the software development life cycle including various documentation techniques, participating in testing activities, and developing metadata
  • Applied knowledge of process improvement and design principles
  • Thorough knowledge of Wells Fargo  businesses, systems, and strategies
