Wholesale Banking provides financial solutions to businesses across the United States and globally.  Our four major business lines include Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Wells Fargo Commercial Capital.  We also have groups in credit risk, group risk, finance, marketing, human relations, and the Wholesale Chief Operating Office that support our businesses.

SBA (Small Business Administration) Lending is part of the Specialized Industries Group within Commercial Banking.  As a whole, SBA is responsible for the production, management and servicing of a $10B+ portfolio of government guaranteed SBA 7(A) loans and 504 real estate loans.

We are looking for two highly-motivated, credit savvy leaders for the positions of Lending Manager 2's to join our Construction Loan Management and Underwriting Teams at our hubs in Charlotte, NC and Minneapolis, MN.


  • Onsite Team Lead in the SBA Underwriting Hub
  • Actively managing a direct team of 6-10 Construction Loan Managers and Credit Analysts
  • Approving new construction loans within unit/department level authorities
  • Actively coaching, motivating, and inspiring a fast paced production construction risk and underwriting team
  • Planning, organizing, and directing staff in accomplishing business goals
  • Assisting in the originating, structuring and executing of the largest most complex transactions related to SBA Lending
  • Providing recognition to the construction underwriting team
  • Monitoring and reviewing the team members’ construction underwriting and portfolio management performance
  • Developing team member talents through use of internal and external resources
  • Oversee regional analysis of construction project budgets, collateral valuations and contractors data
  • Timely identification and documentation of adverse & key construction risk for regional portfolio
  • Proactive management of an ongoing regional portfolio of projects through the disbursement period, including periodic review of borrower's financial statements
  • Maintenance of division’s credit policies and compliance requirements
  • Collaborative management of Construction Projects within Credit Management Group (CMG)

  • Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented team members, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing team members, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of lending experience
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • 4+ years of commercial underwriting experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction and construction lending
  • Strong commercial credit analysis skills
  • Ability to represent the company/business units to internal and external auditors, RECOR, OCC, or other regulatory agencies
  • Ability to achieve high production and quality standards
  • Experience developing partnerships and collaborating with other business and functional areas
  • Knowledge and understanding of Small Business Administration (SBA) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Policies
  • Ability to review and interpret complex commercial loan documents
  • Ability to provide leadership by coaching, training, and mentoring
  • Ability to recruit, retain, and grow high potential talent/teams
