Corporate Risk helps all Wells Fargo businesses identify and manage risk. The team focuses on several key risk types, including conduct, credit, financial crimes, information security, interest rate, liquidity, market, model, operational, regulatory compliance, reputation, strategic, and technology risk. The group provides leadership, enhances communications, assists with problem identification and solutions, and shares best practices. In addition, the group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.

The Compliance Risk Assessment, Annual Plan, and Reporting Team centralizes oversight responsibility for Compliance processes relative to the assessment, measurement and reporting of compliance risk, assisting business and risk aligned compliance groups within Wells Fargo who participate in these compliance processes.

This Compliance Consultant 5 - Front Line Risk Assessment Lead position will oversee Compliance responsibilities relative to the Enterprise & Operational Risk Assessments (ERID and RCSA) and related asks including (a) quarterly assessment review and update, (b) semi-annual risk title review and update, (c) associated operational and enterprise risk projects like the Control Taxonomy Transformation (d) Operational Loss Data review and disposition and (e) related enterprise and operational risk reporting.  In addition, the candidate will support Compliance Officer responsibilities associated to the Enterprise & Operational Risk Assessment initiatives including providing credible challenge to Front Line assessments, aggregating compliance risk assessment data to inform assessment outcomes and preparing analyses to help inform senior management of assessment outcomes and demonstrate Compliance adherence to enterprise and operational risk assessment policies and procedures.

  • Provide oversight, guidance, and credible challenge for compliance officers assisting in Front Line Risk Assessment initiatives
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of compliance risk assessment data, working in conjunction with compliance officers and the Enterprise and Operational Risk Teams, to perform required activities in accordance with corporate policy, regulatory expectations and best practices
  • Analyze new Front Line Risk Assessment activities and prepare summary requirements for compliance officers and senior leadership
  • Aggregate compliance risk exposures at an enterprise level
  • Participate in or lead Compliance workshops to ensure successful review and approval of applicable risk assessment results
  • Build strong partnerships and collaborate effectively with enterprise risk, operational risk, front line control functions, other independent risk management (IRM) functions and internal Compliance partners
  • Assist team members with ad hoc assignments
  • As appropriate, assist with the management of regulatory examinations and inquiries, and internal audits of assigned activities
  • Assist with the development of training materials
  • Help ensure identified deficiencies are promptly addressed and resolved
  • Help ensure proper and effective communication is in place, and develop additional reporting as necessary
  • Communicate issues and new developments regarding Front Line risk assessment throughout the compliance community, as necessary
  • Work with senior management, enterprise & operational risk and other IRM teams to encourage, promote and enhance a culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 10+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently, clearly and explicitly condense complex information and scenarios to essential elements for executive recommendations & consumption
  • Ability to work independently, while ensuring appropriate transparency and escalation
  • Experience communicating with financial services regulators and or internal audit
  • Ability to integrate process and policy knowledge into oversight activities
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to end-to-end business processes
  • Ability to oversee an enterprise-wide program designed to achieve and ensure compliance with enterprise and operational risk requirements
  • Ability to operate in a complex and matrixed environment
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines despite competing priorities
  • BS/BA degree or higher, Juris Doctor (JD) degree
