The Category Management Manager Kroger Team is the subject matter expert surrounding shelf management, assortment analyses, opportunity gaps, SWOT Analysis, Industry/Macro Trends and much more that create value to both BBU and the customer. Effective performance requires thorough understanding and consistent use of Kroger systems (84.51, M6), syndicated data sources such as IRI/Nielsen, Spectra, and planogram software (JDA/Apollo). The Manager, Category Management Kroger Team is a key member of BBU s Kroger National Account Team and will report into the Sr. Manager, Category Management.


  • Category management expert and advisor for leadership functions. Influences decisions makers by reviewing and analyzing shelf space opportunities, current business trends and category performance within the market and industry.
  • Responsible for leading implementation of Space Management Projects for all assigned categories at Kroger.
  • Achieve New Item Authorization and Distribution goals with Kroger.
  • Proactively identify and lead category management initiatives that drive category growth while increasing BBU s sales/share and profits. This should include shopper and category insights to drive optimization of product assortment, product placement, incremental merchandising, and pricing and promotional strategies to improve overall category performance.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with Kroger through objective insight development and presentation.
  • Leverage insights and recommend action plans for the Kroger sales team by developing persuasive fact-based customer sales presentations.
  • Maintain frequent and fluid communication within and among cross functional teams up to Director Level regarding projects, insights, and/or opportunities.
  • Work across BBU Business Units and with Brand Teams in a complex environment to assure seamless execution.
  • Ability to go granular with the work and respective projects.
  • Build and maintain reporting as well as communicate the findings.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in category management, shopper insights, and data analytics in CPG industry.

  • Bachelor s degree in Business or Marketing or related field required.

  • Minimum of 8 years work experience in the CPG industry, with heavy emphasis in category management and shopper insights.

  • Ideally having DSD experience and worked with Kroger as a customer while depth of customer and shopper insights is more critical.

  • Responsible for ensuring and maintaining a safe environment through compliance of all Company, Local, State and Federal mandates or programs.

  • Create a Continuous Improvement environment by improving products, service, and processes with the objective to reduce waste. across the nation while striving for efficiency and profitability.

  • Travel up to 30%.

Key Behavioral Competencies:

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated broad experience in category management, shopper insights, and data analytics in CPG industry.

  • Expertise in using space management tools i.e. JDA (preferred) or Apollo.

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience using Kroger Tools (84.51 and M6) as well as panel data.

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience using syndicated data via IRI and/or Nielsen.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting to senior leadership at both BBU and key retailers.

  • Strong ability to lead with and without direct authority; collaboration with cross-functional business partners is highly critical

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Advanced computer skills specifically in Excel, PowerPoint and either Access or Tableau.

  • Fact-based selling is a must with ability to tell a story simply and effectively.
