Sr Director, Mobile Product - Wi-Fi Offload

The Senior Director, Mobile Product – Wi-Fi Offload reports to the Executive Director, Wireless Strategy and is responsible for leading the development and enhancement of Wi-Fi connectivity to reduce data tonnage dependence on a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) partner, thereby reducing operational costs, and driving owner’s economics into Cox’s retail wireless (Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Applies industry shifts and market trends to deliver and execute on a multi-year roadmap for Cox’s Wi-Fi offload strategies. Utilizes expert knowledge on wireless, in-home Wi-Fi, metro connectivity technologies, and connection managers to deliver significant MNO operational cost savings in Cox’s retail wireless business.  Responsible for managing $50 Million in capital activity to optimize Wi-Fi hotspot investments to produce the best return on investment. Works independently, leading a cross-functional team that may include direct reports. The hired candidate will be accountable for offload savings and have oversight for improving offload percentages. The ideal candidate has extensive experience leading product development, a deep knowledge of broadband, Wi-Fi, wireless device connection managers, in-home connectivity products, and a vision for how Cox can leverage its capabilities to provide additional value to each customer’s access experience.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Leads the planning of the product roadmap for Wi-Fi connectivity in collaboration with Mobile offerings, ensuring the right strategic portfolio and managing the sequence of development.  
  • Actively and consistently oversees and executes Wi-Fi Offload strategy for all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience related to Wi-Fi and alternative network access. 
  • Applies a strong understanding of product development processes to lead the execution of all product development initiatives for device connectivity and management products, holding the organization accountable to deliver the product roadmap. 
  • Responsible for understanding competitive capabilities and consumer trends for incorporating into the product roadmap and ensuring the competitiveness of Cox’s device connectivity and management products. 
  • Responsible for developing techniques to optimize Wi-Fi offload from Mobile networks partnered with by Cox. 
  • Manages capital budgets of related product development initiatives. 
  • Defines product features and requirements for device connectivity and management products, setting usability and performance standards. 
  • Develops effective partnerships between the Product Management team and the other supporting functional organizations (Engineering, Software Development, IT, Operations, 3rd Party suppliers, etc.) to properly interpret and deliver to the product requirements. 
  • Maintains a strong technical knowledge of Wi-Fi and broadband technologies and can collaborate effectively with Engineering groups. 
  • Ensures alignment between the business operational strategies and technical solutions. 
  • Accountable to the customer experience of Wi-Fi connectivity and management products, ensuring simplicity, quality, and operational excellence. 
  • Leads and provides oversight towards business development and strategic partnerships for Wi-Fi connectivity and management products, assessing potential partnerships, negotiating related deals, and managing resulting relationships, working closely with business development. 
  • Analyzes performance metrics of device connectivity and management products to recommend product improvements. 
  • Works closely with the Internet, Video, and Voice product teams to ensure a seamless customer device connectivity experience. 


  • 10 or more years of experience required in Telecommunications or related field (Wireless, Cable, Engineering)
  • 5 or more years of experience required if candidate possesses a related advanced degree
  • 5 or more years managing MNO Wi-Fi offload preferred 
  • Strong background and demonstrated experience in broadband connection technologies to include DOCSIS, PON, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, 5G, and associated equipment 
  • Experience in Product Management / New Product Development Experience  
  • Strong background and experience with Wi-Fi connectivity and management subject matter expert, including wireless device connection manager experience
  • Deep understanding of competitive access products and related consumer trends
  • BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly desired (i.e.  Business, Engineering or Science Field)
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • 10 or more years of experience in a management role preferred 
  • Strong presentation, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills with ability to confidently and comfortably interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage and foster change 
  • Ability to lead large, cross-functional teams in order to achieve business goals and results 
  • Ability to build, motivate and lead a team 
  • Ability to listen to multiple points of view and synthesize against goals for recommendations
