Manager of Cyber Defense Engineering

The Manager of Cyber Defense Engineering will lead a team of cybersecurity professionals designing, deploying, enhancing and supporting cybersecurity toolsets. This leader will direct the operations of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), network visibility, application whitelisting, log ingestion, Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM), Security Orchestration Automation and Response (SOAR), and data lake solutions in the corporate and service provider networks supporting the Security Operations Center (SOC).


This role will directly report to the Director of Cyber Defense Engineering and Vulnerability Management. 


Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Implementation and ongoing maintenance of security solutions, including security agents deployed on endpoints across the enterprise.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve issues on supported security solutions.
  • Manage security vendor relationships and partner with vendors on providing product updates, bug fixes and feature enhancements.
  • Create clear and concise documentation.
  • Continuous analysis and improvement of managed solutions’ architectural design and countermeasures.
  • Escalation point for operational issue resolution, including after hours.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of industry cyber defense and visibility trends, vendors and product roadmaps.
  • Assist with development of cyber defense strategy.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports ensuring success in their role and overall team success.
  • Performance of other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • 7+ years of experience in Information Security or a related operational support role
  • Strong communication, planning, documentation and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, presentation, and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization.
  • Ability to influence across functional teams to achieve desired business results.
  • Working knowledge/experience of typical operating systems, routers, switches, firewalls, security principles, and applications.
  • At least one relevant industry certification – CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA, CPA, PCI ISA/QSA.
  • BS/BA degree (i.e., Computer Science/Engineering, Business, etc.).
  • Masters or other advanced degree in the field of cybersecurity.
  • Experience in the telecommunications, financial services, defense or government industries.  
  • Detailed knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and summarizing of data to be actionable.
  • Strong knowledge of security solutions including Carbon Black, Moloch, Qualys, QRadar, Elastic stack (ELK – Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or Kafka.
  • Working knowledge of Powershell, Python, or SQL.
