Cox Communications is now hiring for a Director of Smart Community Solutions for its Cox2M business line. Cox2M is a new Internet of Things (IoT) business line within Cox Communications established in 2018. The Cox2M Team’s mission is to unleash the true potential of a connected world by enabling complete asset tracking and monitoring solutions, giving businesses and communities the data and tools they need to improve processes, realize operational efficiencies, and deliver better experiences to customers and residents. About the Job

Be a leader who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced venture where you will be responsible for organizing, executing and leading a Connected Environments Collaboratory on the Smart Communities team within Cox2M. As the Director of Smart Community Solutions, you will be responsible for creating and managing a program that produces innovative solutions that solve real-world challenges. The Collaboratory will consist of an environment to build innovative solutions from the ideation phase to commercialization.  This role will lead a team that conducts various ideation and brainstorming workshops, perform analysis and discovery of ideas, coordinate with hardware and software teams to develop proof of concepts, perform rigorous tests of concepts and measure overall impact of solutions.  This opportunity requires a strong leader who can not only think outside the box and imagine the art of the possible but who can create a program that produces something meaningful beyond the whiteboard. This role will interface with multiple executive stakeholders from Cox and the community on a regular basis. The position reports to the Director of Smart Communities for Cox2M.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Run and manage an innovation environment on a large campus focused on research and development to produce meaningful solutions
Identify ideas that are innovative and have strong commercial potential, while quickly evaluating those that are not of high value
Identify innovative intellectual property and work with the appropriate internal parties to execute the appropriate protections and patents
Work with hardware and software development teams to ensure product requirements are being incorporated into all levels of a particular solution
Promote effective collection and analysis of all types of data as well as data access for non-technical personnel to strengthen a “data is king” mentality
Manage multiple projects within the innovation environment
Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to support project and program managers
Present multiple times a year to senior leadership teams on the Collaboratory, and project statuses
Become an expert in the Cox2M stack and solution suite and their points of integration 


BS/BA degree in related discipline desired (engineering, decision sciences, analytics, etc.)
Excellent analytical and academic credentials 
6+ years of experience developing products as solutions to complex problems
3+ years of project or program management
2+ years of IoT experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Solid interpersonal, presentation, and collaborative skills and commitment to develop further
Natural curiosity and tendency to question the status quo
Strong ability to manage multiple stakeholders at C-level of multiple organizations
Experience managing and leading teams with strong management skills
Strong background of innovation
Prior start-up experience


Hands-on experience implementing process-changing technologies
Experience implementing SaaS solutions that include hardware components/sensors
Experience building or improving change management and issue resolution processes
Experience in product development or in a high-tech environment
Hands-on experience with data manipulation and machine learning tools
Advanced degree preferred
