Position Summary:  The Senior User Experience (UX) Researcher is passionate about delivering a great user experience. The Senior User Experience (UX) Researcher will drive insights to inform the definition and development of the user experience for new and existing products across Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book brands. This person will work closely with designers, product managers, development, and other research verticals, to deliver insights that create engaging and intuitive experiences. The Senior UX Researcher needs to have a strong research foundation but flexible approach. They are a creative thinker and have the ability to tell a convincing story from the results to meet user needs and business goals.


This position can be based in either Irvine, CA or Atlanta, GA


Position responsibilities:

  • Responsible for working cross functionally with teams to shape and execute research plans based on business needs and growth initiatives for both existing and new products
  • Plan, design, and conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies, including scheduling, recruiting, writing research plans, facilitation, and data analysis to uncover insights and make actionable recommendations to help the business grow
  • Conduct both formative (e.g., ethnographic research, contextual interviews) and evaluative (e.g., lab/remote sessions, surveys) research
  • Synthesize and evangelize research findings through creative and actionable written reports and oral presentations
  • Report at various levels, from detailed identification of issues and recommendations for product teams to high-level executive overview
  • Work closely with the Analytics team to triangulate UX research data and derive insights. Collaborate with Market Research and use market research models and insights to drive superior decision making
  • Pro-actively provide consumer centric trends and information including competitive and strategic intelligence regarding consumer behavior, needs, and innovative experiences
  • Thought leader that mentors research team and helps direct priorities for research projects to ensure the most effective and efficient use of Kelley Blue Book’s investment in UX research
  • Lead and facilitate design sprints, brainstorming sessions, needs analysis, features, and functionality workshops as needed
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Experimental Design, or related field plus 5+ years of related work experience- or - Master’s degree (preferred) + 3+ years of related experience
  • Proven ability to be a contributing member of a cross-functional team and inspire team confidence in and respect for the contributions of research to enhance user experience
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively partner with and communicate to stakeholders, designers, product managers and engineering development team members
  • Express facts, thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise, convincing and organized manner. Highly adept at successfully responding to push back and challenges
  • Portfolio that includes examples of leading strategic research with significant business outcomes as well as and putting together long term research plans
  • Proven experience with techniques in qualitative research (usability testing, ethnographic research, contextual inquiry, etc.) and techniques in quantitative research (survey construction, understanding results of analytics and multivariate analysis, etc.) 
  • Must have a solid understanding of basic software design and development process, user interface/information architecture conventions, and multi-device (web, mobile) technical landscape 
  • Experience with conducting design sprints a plus
