Internal Audit Specialist

Cox Enterprises is hiring an Internal Audit Specialist who will assist in the execution of the department’s plan, budget, objectives, and goals by performing advisory and assurance projects in accordance with the annual audit plan and risk strategy; driving the overall execution of projects from planning through final report delivery; and collaborating with team members and stakeholders to set responsibilities and manage workloads among multiple engagements. 

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability in leading diverse teams within simultaneous work streams on multiple projects while utilizing project management standards and performance management techniques.  This role will report to the Advisory and Assurance Manager.

Responsibilities 

  • Act as an independent and objective assurance and consulting professional by assessing current processes and internal controls and providing recommendations that add value and improve the organization's operations

  • Apply and leverage understanding of business processes and risk and control concepts to develop risk assessments, audit programs, and testing procedures that appropriately address identified risks and project objectives

  • Review audit evidence and demonstrate the ability to draw appropriate conclusions regarding the effectiveness of the organization’s control environment

  • Prepare workpapers that are accurate, complete, and well-documented ensuring adherence to applicable professional standards at all times

  • Perform review of workpapers to ensure that workpapers are accurate, complete, and well-documented ensuring adherence to applicable professional standards at all times

  • Support business units and processes by identifying continuous improvement opportunities with clear quality, cost, and/or efficiency gains; utilizing data-driven, fact-based analytics to formulate tactical solutions to business issues; and understanding the relationships between mitigating risk, improving performance, and balancing cost/benefit of suggested solutions and changes

  • Proficiently apply continuous improvement methods by demonstrating end-to-end process perspective and analysis; mastering the advisory and assurance skill sets through active participation in the department curricula; staying abreast of current business and industry developments as well as new pronouncements/standards relevant to Cox business units; and championing continuous improvement and change

  • Organize and present project information/summaries in a concise, coherent manner through appropriate communication tools and conduits and apply the templates, methodologies, tools, and technologies supporting the department’s portfolio of services to deliver high-value deliverables and results

  • Assist in the evolution of the department’s supporting infrastructure by evaluating alternative courses of action; recommending adjustments and improvements; and participating in the department’s ongoing transformation into a continuous improvement culture

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance/Economics, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, and/or a related business field (e.g. MBA)

  • Certification(s) Preferred: CIA, CPA, CISA, or Six Sigma

 

Professional Experience/Education:

 
  • 2+ years of performing/leading advisory/assurance projects; demonstrating creative, out-of-box thinking and solid project management principles to drive projects to completion; or an MBA

  • 2+ years of consulting/advisory experience with roles of increasing responsibility; industry experience preferred

Business/Leadership Skills:

 
  • Working knowledge of business risks, process improvement methodologies/tools, audit/assurance techniques/programs, creative problem solving skills, and structuring findings/recommendations; defining project objectives, structuring work plans, and conducting fact-based analysis to develop and test hypotheses

  • Working knowledge and experience with data collection and analysis techniques; detecting and solving complex problems; conducting root cause and failure mode analysis; and applying systemic thinking to thoroughly synthesize information from different sources

  • Proven ability to work productively with people of diverse functional expertise and backgrounds; building and maintaining excellent working relationships; leading by example in embracing change, resolving conflicts, fostering positive team dynamics, and displaying team-orientation and personal integrity

  • Solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills demonstrating a consistent attention to detail; solid organization and workflow skills

  • Proficiency with data analysis and process mapping applications; Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
