Manager, Financial Reporting and Technical Research

The financial reporting group serves as subject matter experts on technical accounting issues.  The team’s primary function is to prepare and ensure that the company’s consolidated financial statements are in compliance with GAAP.  We are seeking a proactive independent thinker and strong communicator to join our Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting Group as a Manager supporting the Cox Communications, Inc. (CCI) division. This position includes preparation of external financial reporting on a quarterly and annual basis, as well as the coordination of the annual financial statement audit with the outside independent auditors, and analyzing financial results. Serve as an advisor to CCI personnel by providing technical accounting guidance and research. Review material contracts for correct accounting treatment and advise the business. Manage, coach and develop a direct report. Reports to Director, Financial Reporting.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the preparation and review of quarterly and annual CCI financial statements distributed to investors, analysts and senior leadership. 
  • Conduct accounting research and provide accounting standard guidance to CCI and corporate departments 
  • Evaluate new accounting guidance, including implementation of the new revenue recognition and lease accounting standards.
  • Prepare CCI sources and uses cash flow statements for accuracy and submission to the Financial Planning and Analysis group
  • Achieve timely completion of deliverables to internal and external parties, which includes monthly, quarterly and annual tasks.  
  • Prepare and review accounting for CCI’s investment and debt portfolio.
  • Assist in completion of CCI special projects such as bond offerings, acquisitions and dispositions. 
  • Assist in the preparation and review of documentation for and the coordination of annual audits. 
  • Lead annual intangible impairment testing process.
  • Oversee a direct report’s work and delegate tasks successfully in order to achieve group objectives. 
  • Regular in-person interaction with business partners, co-workers, and manager is required.
  • General Supervision: The employee normally receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of accounting experience required
  • Two years of public accounting experience is required. Big Four experience is preferred
  • Active CPA license required
  • Strong technical research skills and knowledge of current US GAAP
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting skills, including writing and editing financial statements
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and re-prioritize as necessary
EDUCATION:
  • BS/BA in accounting or related discipline is required
  • Master’s degree in accounting or related discipline is preferred
