The Release Engineer, Software Engineering will work within the Release & Environment Management team within our Enterprise Platforms organization. We seek a well-rounded individual contributor who is willing to assume hands-on responsibilities, be able to work with limited supervision, collaborate with other Release Engineers and support other teams in the overall successful delivery and support of solutions in the Sales, Service, Marketing and Master data domains. 

Candidates for this role should possess practical knowledge of the development operations (devops) discipline and the Salesforce.com platform (Sales, Service and Marketing Cloud). To be successful in this role candidates should be organized, consultative, collaborative and strategic. The ideal candidate will have a background in enterprise technology development and production support in a B2B environment and have experience in DevOps execution through collaboration with multiple delivery teams.

This resource will be tasked with helping operate and improve the Enterprise DevOps function.  They will work with a small team of Release Engineers and agile Delivery Teams to ensure complete understanding of environments, code builds and release schedules to support continuous delivery. The ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment while proactively promoting IT configuration standards, business transparency, consistency of execution and an empirical approach to resolutions is integral to success in this role.  

Responsibilities:

  • Support and coordinate deployment of releases through an increasingly complex set of environments that serve multiple stakeholders across multiple business units and segments.
  • Coordinate with delivery teams throughout the development lifecycle to ensure environments are configured and maintained in a controlled and timely manner.  Establish and communicate clear escalation paths and supports processes.

·         Support technology stewardship of the devops discipline by contributing best practices, governance and hands on guidance to teams on their work. Promote consistent process and documentation and ensure the department IT standards are being followed for environments, configuration management, change control, code migration, release management and platform upgrades.

  • Coordinate with key boundary partners including Technology Architecture, Quality Engineering, Technology Operations, Security and Product to ensure that platform integrity and value are maintained.
  • Utilize release management processes and tools which improve quality and speed of delivery, reduce operational costs and ensure scale.
  • Contribute to automated build systems that can deploy continuously during working and non-working hours.  Automates code packaging, code deployment, and configuration management processes to be used across both production and non-production environments.
  • Exhibit flexibility, collaboration, and transparency in handling multiple competing tasks in a fast-paced IT environment.

Qualifications:

Education: BS or Equivalent

Minimum years of work experience: 6-10

Required skills & experience:

  • At least 2 full years experience Salesforce.com platform technical administration including OWDs, user roles, profiles, permission sets, data loads, app/managed package installation, upgrades, permission sets and overall environment management.
  • Proficient utilizing devops software and processes such as Change Sets, Scripting, Job Scheduling, Health Assessments, Copado, AutoRabit, GitHub and Jenkins.
  • Working experience delivering and supporting large packaged SaaS products in an Engineering, Operations, or Product role
  • Experience with core devops activities such as environment management, release management, source control, code migration, change control, testing and refreshes
  • Experience managing development security including users, access, and permissions
  • Experience with data conversions from legacy systems and integrations to other platforms
  • Able to maintain an inventory of all applications, tools and major functions in the technology stack and the resources to support them
  • Knowledge of platform installation and upgrade best practices and standards
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, matrixed team environment within the Enterprise Platforms group as well as other groups within the IT organization
  • Ability to rationalize, plan, estimate and schedule multiple tasks or stories and develop detailed resource and project plans
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically and mitigate risks
  • Familiarity with agile delivery processes, artifacts, ceremonies and tools including Rally

 

Preferred skills & experience:

  • Experience working with and following enterprise technology operations processes including change control, monitoring, alerting, support tiers, backups, production security and disaster recovery
  • Experience as a Technical team lead on major implementations, including experience facilitating the deployment of code and configuration changes.
  • Ability to identify and rationalize the implementation of process improvements collaboratively with other IT/business functions
  • Salesforce.com Sales, Service and Marketing Cloud certifications
  • Proficiency in using Salesforce data tools (Data Loader, Excel Connector, Demand Tools, Eclipse Force.com IDE)
  • Experience with integration tools including Mulesoft, Informatica and AWS
  • Familiarity with SAFe/Enterprise Delivery including Delivery Streams, Release Trains and Delivery Teams
  • Experience with devops, CI/CD and test automation processes and tools
  • Understanding of core Quality Engineering practices including test planning, execution, tools and defect management.
Understanding of platform support processes, particularly tier 3, and support tools including ServiceNow
